Haters, get over it. Ginger deserved the crown

Ginger Minj just took the crown on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 and a number of fans are freaking out. Instagram is getting flooded with complaints that she was favoured from the start and didn’t deserve several of her lipsync wins. But in reality, Ginger was the season's powerhouse. I think there is something else going on here...
This was Ginger’s fourth attempt at the crown. If she were truly Ru’s golden child, why didn’t she win earlier? Why wait until now? And let’s not forget JujuBee — Ru clearly adores her, yet season after season, Juju just can’t pull it together for the win.
Now, I’ll admit: production can shape the outcome. Look at Jimbo. That win was heavily massaged, but fans wanted it, so no one really minded. Arguably the same with Chad Michaels back on All Stars 1—a queen many think was handpicked for the crown. And if you want to talk about questionable wins, look at Alyssa Edwards on International All Stars. She coasted through safe placements and still snatched the crown. That felt flimsy, sure, but Alyssa is undeniably a star, and it’s not like she didn’t deserve the recognition.
What’s happening now feels different. I think fans are angry because they’re used to having power. On the main franchise, Ru listens. Take Nymphia Wind: Ru didn’t seem blown away during the season, but fans were obsessed. And in the end, Ru gave the crown to Team Yellow. Fans have come to expect that their preferences can tip the scales. But All Stars works differently. There are queen votes, MVQ points, and other twists that limit production control. And then in the end, Mother Ru gets the final word.
Did production favor Ginger? A bit, sure. But here’s the truth: Ginger delivered. She didn’t flub. Week after week, she brought polished, consistent, and hilarious performances. And in the final lipsync, while Jorgeous danced up a storm, Ginger nailed the spirit of the song.
One last note. I watched the finale with my mother-in-law, who knows nothing about Drag Race and had no favourite. Her scorecard matched Ru’s, song for song. For all the outrage about rigging, maybe it’s time to take a breath. Ginger Minj might not be your favorite, but she’s an exceptional queen who earned that win.
