⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tor Lukasik-Foss' New Wave Your Behaviour is a fascinating and hilarious account of how he found his way out of a mental health crisis by analyzing the archetypes within 1980s New Wave hits. With synthesizer and serenade, Tor spellbinds the audience with charisma, passion, and an unforgettable stage presence. This play is at once silly, powerful, and tightly written.
We attended this show with Carmunist's cousin Estrella. Here's what she had to say:
New Wave Your Behaviour reveals what an action-packed journey through grief and the pursuit of mental wellness would be like if we lived life with a soundtrack by the Talking Heads, Joy Division, and The Psychedelic Furs. Using an immersive soundscape, Tor Lukasik-Foss brilliantly captures how the everyday moments that we've normalized may be not so "normal" after all. Although the show confronts the difficulty of unpacking trauma, it is also done in a way that is both captivating and funny. Every moment I thought, "What is he going to do next?!" Dust off your Devo hats and enjoy the ride at New Wave Your Behaviour.
Most Fringers are going to love this show, but younger audience members might not get all the New Wave references. Even still, it shouldn't be skipped!

The Victoria Fringe Festival, presented by Intrepid Theatre since 1986, has become a cornerstone of the city’s arts scene, known for its unjuried, anything-goes approach to performance. For Carmunist and Septimus, Fringe is the highlight of the year. We’ve been involved as volunteers for more than a decade, and more recently, we’ve opened our home to performers as billets. Reviewing Fringe shows is something we’ve talked about for some time, and now we’re putting our experience as fiction editors and theatre stans to work, offering our thoughts and workshop notes for as many performances as we can attend.
